17 January 2021

The Minerva Center for Interdisciplinary Study of the End-of-Life awarded research grants for studies on an array of topics concerning end of life, which represents the final phase of human existence. These awards facilitated studies about crucial end-of-life issues by Israeli researchers from diverse disciplines.

In order to make the results of these studies available to the Hebrew-reading public, Hakibbutz Hameuchad - Sifriat Poalim Publishing Group has published a collection of these studies under the title, “When Life Ends: Medicine, Law, and Culture Confronting Death in Israel.

Edited by Minerva Center directors, Dr. Shai Brill, Prof. Jiska Cohen-Mansfield, Prof. Haim Hazan and Prof. Shai Lavi, the volume will coverfour main topics: how the Israeli medical system approaches end-of-life care, the legal and moral dilemmas posed by the final stage of life, how suffering at end-of-life may be alleviated, and cultural influences on the conception of death in Israeli society.
